Air Vice Marshal Gurinder Pal Singh Flying (Pilot), a graduate from National Defence Academy (52nd Course, ‘India’ Squadron), was commissioned on 07 July 1978 as a transport pilot. He has flown over 6000 hrs on Otter, Kiran, HT 2, HPT 32, Avro and An 32 aircraft. In over 31 years of distinguished service, he has held several prestigious appointments that include Air Force Examiner on An 32, Avro and Kiran aircraft at Aircrew Examining Board, Commanding Officer HQ CAC Communication Flight, Directing Staff at Defence Services Staff College Wellington, Joint Director Personnel Officers (Transports) at Air HQ, Chief Operation Officer at AF Station Agra, CO 12 Squadron and Chief Instructor at Fixed Wing Training Faculty (FWTF) AF Station Yelahanka, Air Officer Commanding at Air Force Station Jorhat prior to his present appointment as Additional Director General (A) at Dte Gen NCC. The officer was awarded VM on 26 Jan 08.
AVM GP Singh is an A2 flying instructor. At AF Stn Agra, while commanding an An 32 Sqn he simultaneously performed duties of COO for over a year due service exigencies. The officer took over as CI, FWTF on 19 July 2004. His unflinching passion for excellence and professionalism resulted in award of ‘Training Command Flight Safety Trophy’ to FWTF for the year 2004–05 and 2005-06, in succession and the ‘Best Flying Training Establishment’ in 2006-07. As second in command at AF Stn Yelahanka his proactive participation in all spheres contributed significantly in smooth conduct of Aero India 2005 and 2007, besides being instrumental in ensuring sound Tarmac Management for over a 100 aircraft and a methodical Aircraft Static Display for both the Air Shows.
As AOC AF Stn Jorhat, the systematic and meticulous officer, demanded high standards and exactitude in all spheres of flying activity that resulted in a first ever An 32 night landing by IAF at an Advanced Landing Ground in Arunachal Pradesh. In spite of the constraints, his professional competence and constant involvement ensured a very high serviceability and availability of An 32 ac that further enhanced the operational preparedness of the IAF in the Eastern sector. Under his command the morale and happiness quotient of the Stn, the proactive and willing attitude, especially the professional ego and pride in the uniform exhibited by all the personnel, was praiseworthy. The crowning glory was certainly the award of the ‘Best Flying Station in Eastern Air Command’ to 10 Wing, AF for the year 2009.
AVM GP Singh is married to Mrs Daisy Singh and they have three daughters. Mrs Daisy Singh’s dedication and involvement in all spheres of AFWWA activities and Air Force School, as President AFWWA (L) 10 Wing AF, resulted in the award of ‘Best AFWWA Venture Major Station’, ‘Best Secondary School’ and ‘Best AFWWA Sangini Award’ in Eastern Air Command in the year 2008 and 2009. In addition in the year 2009, ‘Umeed Underprivileged School’ was adjudged as the best underprivileged school in EAC.
