Maj Gen JS Sandhu


Maj Gen JS Sandhu is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla. He was commissioned into 2 Field Regiment (Self Propelled) and subsequently commanded 197 Field Regiment (Kargil).  He has been an Army Aviation Corps Pilot and was awarded the “Best in Flying" trophy during the flying course. He has approximately 1100 hours of flying experience on Cheetah Helicopter.

He has been an instructor at the Senior Command Wing, Army War College, Mhow.  He commanded 5 Sector Rashtriya Rifles in intense Counter Insurgency Environment in North Kashmir. He has been the General Officer Commanding of 20 Mountain Division and Major General in Charge of Administration in HQ Northern Command. 

Maj Gen JS Sandhu has attended the Defence Services Staff Course (DSSC) at Wellington and the Higher Command Course at Army War College, Mhow.  He is also an alumnus of National Defence College, New Delhi. He has been Director in the Perspective Planning Directorate at Army HQ, GSO 1 (Operations) of the Srinagar based 15 Corps during Operation Vijay, Staff and Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (ACIDS) in charge of the Counter Terrorism Division. During his service he has been awarded VCOAS Commendation and the GOC-in-C Northern Command Commendation Card.

He assumed the charge of ADG (B), HQ DGNCC in January 2016.

The General's wife, Mrs Ruby Sandhu is a post graduate from Mumbai University. She is an educationist and also a qualified Sujok Therapist. They are blessed with a son and a daughter. Their son is serving as Flight Lieutenant in Indian Air Force in the flying branch. The daughter is studying in Delhi University.
